Some Big Business and Life Updates—Lightning Round Style!

Pat Flynn: What’s up, Team Flynn? It is Friday, which is interesting, because I don’t usually publish a podcast episode on Fridays, nor do I publish two podcasts episodes in one week, but hey, that’s happening this week. Now, truth be told, this episode was supposed to be . . . It is Episode 343, and it remains 343, but it’s a little bit different than what I had thought it was gonna be. It was supposed to be a behind the scenes conversation with myself and my videographer, Caleb, as we launched a brand new invention and physical product on Kickstarter. Some of you may have heard of this little thing called the SwitchPod, which I’ll talk a little bit about that in the beginning here after I intro, because that’s what this episode was supposed to be about, because it was supposed to have launched. But, due to […]

My First Live Conference—Announcing FlynnCON1!

Pat Flynn: Hey, what’s up Team Flynn? Really thankful you’re spending some time with me today. This will be a very unique episode actually, because I don’t have a special guest on. I’m not necessarily teaching you step by step tactics—which I love to do, and don’t worry there are a lot more of those episodes coming—but I wanted to take you into my brain behind the scenes of my business and tell you about something that’s coming next year that I haven’t announced formally or publicly yet. I’ve teased it a little bit here and there on social media and so far just, I mean, I’m so excited about this but I’m so scared. And actually it’s because I’m scared, that’s how I know that this is the right direction to go. What is this? What am I going to be talking about? The very first live event that […]

Preorder the Special Edition of Let Go on Kickstarter!

10 years ago today I walked into my boss’s office and got let go from my dream job. I felt like I’d been punched in the gut, but this was actually one of the best things that’s ever happened to me! Sometimes it takes letting go of where you are to get where you need to be. I celebrate my Let Go Day every year. It reminds me of how far I’ve come since starting my journey. I’ve written about this journey before in my book, Let Go, but this year I’m doing something special. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of my Let Go Day, I’m launching the first ever hardcover edition, coffee table-style version of Let Go. Through my brand-new Kickstarter campaign, you can get access to it, as well as a limited, signature edition of the book. I have various pledge goals at different levels: You can get […]

A lot of hard work from the past six months paid off in March, and I’m stoked to talk about the results of two course launches that happened. Yes—two courses. 🙂 Am I crazy? Probably, but also very excited to be moving forward with the goals I set for myself and the business. With no more delay, let’s get right into it. Important Goings-On in March Two courses? Yes. Let’s start with the one that’s more well known, Smart From Scratch, which opened up for […]

Will It Fly? Becomes a Bestseller! Shout-Outs to All Who Helped

My new book, Will It Fly?, is now a bestseller! It hit #1 in all business related categories on Amazon this week, including #1 in Entrepreneurship, #1 in Startups, and even #1 in Self-Help/Motivational. Furthermore, the paperback copy of the book got up to #80 Overall Best Seller (out of all books!), and the Kindle version climbed to Top #22 Overall Best Seller in the Kindle Store. And at one point, both the Kindle and Paperback copy were both #1 and #2 in the Entrepreneurial category, which was super cool to see: It’s still pretty crazy to me to see it do so well in the rankings, surpassing several authors who I admire and very well-known books that have been around for ages. Of course, I’m coming off the excitement of the launch and the true test is how well will the book do over the long haul, but based on many of the comments […]

SPI 302: Coaching vs. Teaching—What I’ve Learned Since Investing in the Art of Coaching

In this episode you’re going to learn about the difference between coaching and teaching, what I’ve learned since investing in the art of coaching, the seven questions you need to ask when coaching, and why this is important for you and your business. Whether you’re just getting started with coaching or are looking to take it to the next level, this episode is critical listening! Why is the difference between coaching and teaching so critical? Coaching is an exceptional way to help people develop skills and abilities and boost performance. There’s crossover of course, but the big difference is that when you’re teaching, the focus is on you and your knowledge. Coaching is about the individual; it’s two-way, collaborative communication. And it’s very, very personal (that’s why coaches can charge more). When it comes to your business’ content, you have a lot of options. You can offer content in a […]

SPI 300: Meet the Mastermind Members in “The Green Room”

Today we’re talking about The Green Room, a six-member mastermind group that I’ve been a part of for years. Leslie Samuel, Michael Stelzner, Cliff Ravenscraft, Mark Mason, Ray Edwards, and myself—we get together to hold each other accountable, set goals, meet those goals, and be brutally honest with each other. Today I’m celebrating my 300th episode by sitting down with each of them! A massive, virtual hug to everyone who’s made the road to Episode 300 possible. We started in July 2010, and here we are in Episode 300. I’m so excited! Today I’m going to be talking individually with each of the members of this group to find out what they’ve been up to, what they’ve learned, and what their plans are going forward. Think of this episode as a best-of from my mastermind. It’s a roundup of wisdom, viewpoints, and advice from a fascinating and successful group of […]

The Stage is Getting Bigger! My Biggest Keynote is Happening Next Month

I know I can make an impact on people through my blog, podcast, and video channel on YouTube, but when you’re on stage and people can see you in person, you have the capacity to affect them on an emotional level. That’s why I’m so excited to announce my biggest keynote ever! Pat Flynn January 8, 2018 My Biggest Keynote Ever Just this past November, I spoke in front of an audience of 3,000 people—the largest number ever for me—at Christy Wright’s Business Boutique event. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Everything is amplified in a room with that many people—from the applause to the laughter and even the silence. When you’re on stage, by yourself, standing in front of an audience of that size, all the senses are heightened. It’s both electric and magical. And guess what? I’m going to do it again. But […]

SPI 298: Before Your New Year Begins . . .

Today’s episode is a very special one, and it’s just you and me. We’re closing in on the end of the year, and there’s a lot to talk about. This time is a great opportunity to reflect on the past year and what’s to come for the year ahead. Hopefully you’re already thinking about 2018 and the things you’re going to try, what you’re going to experiment with—but hopefully this episode inspires you to go even further, to be vulnerable, and to be courageous. This episode is a little bit of an experiment (because that’s what I do here)—I really wanted to switch up the normal episode format with this one. And experimentation is one of the big takeaways: It isn’t easy, and often we don’t know what the results are going to be. A lot of what we do is very public these days, because of social media, etc., […]

SPI 297: Looking Back at 2017—What Went Well, What Did Not

This episode is all about learning from mistakes. Last week we talked about my plans for 2018—well, a lot of the lessons I learned this year resulted in those plans. Today, I’m sharing those lessons with you, not just as an example of what not to do, but to reveal what decisions I made for 2018 because of those experiences. Today I’m talking about the big picture, looking back at 2017. I’ll be discussing my struggles with time management, specifically how saying “yes” too much got me to a point of being overworked. I’ll be talking about the physical product launch that didn’t go according to plan, the two habits I let slip mid-year, and a target that I set for myself that I did not hit. As always I’m being fully transparent—it’s all out on the table for you. That’s because this week’s episode isn’t just about what didn’t […]

The Year of Online Courses (The Results. The Good. The Not so Good.)

One of my 2017 goals was to create and launch powerful online courses. Learn what went well, what could be improved, and what my plans are for 2018. Pat Flynn December 18, 2017 Last year, when I was setting goals for 2017, I knew that a primary strategy for my business was going to be creating and launching effective and in-depth online courses for the SPI audience. One of the motivating factors for this was to significantly transform the way I generate income. You see, for the past eight or so years of running Smart Passive Income, I’ve generated the majority of my income from affiliate marketing. I wanted to change that in 2017. I needed to add some nuance and diversity into my income portfolio. I needed to add different, and significant, pockets of value. Now, I still think affiliate marketing is a fantastic way to generate income, and […]

SPI 296: What’s Coming in 2018 for the Podcast and SPI

We are closing in hot on the end of the year here on SPI. Next week I’ll be recapping the year in full (the good and the bad) but today I want to give a little sneak preview of what’s coming up in 2018 for SPI. It’s going to be a very exciting year, and I can’t wait to share my plans with you! First off: the theme for 2018 is Higher Value. That doesn’t mean tons more content—a lot of us think that in order to do something better we have to do more of that thing, but actually the opposite is true. Sometimes less is more, and sometimes scaling back can have a positive impact on the quality of the content that you are publishing. What I’m talking about today is not necessarily what you should do personally. It’s a preview of what to look forward to, to […]

My November 2017 Monthly Income Report

Over the past few years, the business has become more and more like a machine. Although I’m definitely keeping myself busy with new projects, more parts of the business become automated. This is thanks to the team that I’ve built, the software we’re using, and the rules and procedures we have in place. The blog, the podcast, the emails—a lot of it is automated, which is great. I can serve more and offer even more value since the hard work was put in up front. But . . . Since growing the team and getting more hands-off, I’ve noticed I’ve had a thirst for something new to get excited about—something that would allow me creative freedom and also allow me to re-experience the journey of trying to “figure something out again,” like it was at the start of my podcast and blog. And I think I’ve found it, and it’s […]

I wanted to share some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way, so today I’m giving you 35 quick lessons from 35 years of life. I’m also ending today’s episode with a challenge. This week, I want to give you the opportunity to reflect on the amazing things that you’ve encountered, experienced, and enjoyed in the life you’ve lived so far. Here at SPI, we’ve created a lot of great content, a lot of actionable items over the past several months—last month was Affiliate Marketing Month, for example—but today I want to shift gears and talk about my 35 life lessons. These are short nuggets of wisdom from my business journey and life experiences. This is what I’ve learned so far, in summary, about how to carve out your […]

SPI 293: My Top Performing Affiliate Marketing Products, and Why They Performed So Well

This month is affiliate marketing month, and we’ve covered a lot of ground so far. We’ve talked about strategies—long and short term—and last week we even talked about the dark side of affiliate marketing and how to avoid it. But this week we’re keeping it a little lighter: I’m sharing my top performing affiliate marketing products (that aren’t mine) and breaking down exactly why they’ve performed so well. These products are all fantastic tools that I’ve recommended over the years. They’ve all done well for various reasons, but there are some common threads. These patterns fall right in line with a lot of the rules we’ve talked about, as far as how to win with affiliate marketing. These are great case studies that really embody what we’ve been talking about for the last couple of weeks. This episode is all about the personal experience I’ve had putting my affiliate marketing […]
