Ultimately, a mentor finds fulfillment in “paying it forward,” and you get to benefit from their targeted teachings and guidance. 3 Types of Mentors All Entrepreneurs Need to Be Successful

Fernish CEO Michael Barlow discusses the mentors you need to seek out — and those who are already sitting right next to you. February 8, 2019 6 min read Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. “Strong opinions, loosely held.” It’s a phrase my co-founder, Lucas Dickey, says regularly. It’s not his saying, but rather a framework developed by futurist Paul Saffo at Stanford for making decisions with incomplete information. And if anything defines the life of an entrepreneur, it is incomplete information. One way that I have continually found helpful in closing this information gap is through a strong network of mentors, which in my experience come in three varieties: 1. external mentors, 2. internal mentors, and 3. customers. 1. External mentors External mentors are what people typically think of when you describe “mentors.” They can be family, friends, investors, advisors, executive coaches and so on. They take an […]

Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ Is More Than a Movie, It’s a Model for Mentorship

With uniformly glowing reviews and more than enough pre-ordered tickets to have an anticipated record breaking $160 million opening weekend, Marvel’s 18th superhero epic Black Panther is breaking new ground. Filmmaker Ryan Coogler is Marvel Studio’s first African-American director, and the movie is on track to be among the most successful films with a predominantly black cast, ever. A cursory search of the hashtag #WhatBlackPantherMeansToMe on Twitter is an exuberant illustration of  how necessary and valuable on-screen representation is.
