Frederick Vallaeys Says We’ll All Still Have Marketing Jobs Despite AI

Issac Asimov predicted that robots would cause problems. Not that they would try to take over the world, but that they would take over jobs. People would be unhappy about this. We’ve already seen this happen with the advent of assembly lines at factories where robotic arms can assemble whole cars. But these are dumb machines. What happens when a machine can create quality marketing campaigns? What happens when the machine gets better than the human at keyword research? Will the digital marketing agency become a thing of the past? Fredrick Vallaeys, former Google employee and co-founder of Optmyzer, doesn’t think so. Here’s why. There Are Things Machines Don’t Know Machine learning already seems to be able to learn about the world on its own…sorta. It can mimic human speech…sorta. And it can predict the future…sorta. But what it doesn’t yet have is intuition, a distinctly human trait. What is […]

Here’s Why You Should Be Using a Link Shortener For Your Business

They do more than just reduce a URL’s character count. March 2, 2019 3 min read Disclosure: Our goal is to feature products and services that we think you’ll find interesting and useful. If you purchase them, Entrepreneur may get a small share of the revenue from the sale from our commerce partners. Here’s a new one to file under “Things You Never Knew You Needed”: a link shortener. Link shorteners are exactly what they sound like: tools that take a too-long URL and condense it into a new, briefer one. According to the project management platform CoSchedule, link shorteners were introduced initially because email systems of bygone years would wrap an email after 80 characters, which broke lengthy URLs and rendered them unusable. The eventual development of social media platforms made link shorteners all the more popular as users sought to conform to character limits. (Remember when you only […]

The 5 Best Digital Marketing Tools for Understanding Your Customers

The best marketers are those who actually talk to their customers. Here are 5 tools to help you do that. September 11, 2018 5 min read Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. Voice-Over Coaching: Tips for improving external webinars, internal trainings and other content

Webinars, demos, videos, external online trainings, internal trainings posted to an intranet and many other types of inbound, outbound and internal content require voiceovers. But many marketers don’t have time or budget for professional voice-over (VO) artists, or they don’t want someone external representing the brand. So many content marketers, sales directors and marketing managers find themselves doing the voice-over work, even though that isn’t their expertise. A MECLABS Institute Research Partner (MECLABS is the parent organization of MarketingSherpa) recently found himself in this situation while preparing to record audio to go with PowerPoint presentations that would be hosted in an LMS (learning management system) for internal training. The MECLABS team suggested we connect to discuss the presentations (“Dan leads our publishing team and has conducted many interviews, webinars and training — he’d be a great resource to get some tips on how to best prepare and conduct the recordings […]

Marketing 101: What is website usability?

Marketing has a language all its own. This is our latest in a series of posts aimed at helping new marketers learn that language. What term do you find yourself explaining most often to new hires during onboarding? Let us know. Simply put, website usability is how easy, clear and intuitive it is for visitors to use your website. This is from the visitor’s perspective, not your company’s perspective. Of course, website usability isn’t so simple at all. You essentially have to read someone else’s mind, so the expected user experience matches the web experience you design. However, as 18th-century poet Robert Burns wrote, “The best-laid plans of mice and men / Go oft awry.” As I said, you’re trying to read someone else’s mind (many people, in fact). So the challenges of web usability aren’t necessarily unique to the web. These challenges are the very fundamentals of human behavior […]

Marketing 101: What is above the fold?

Marketing has a language all its own. This is our latest in a series of posts aimed at helping new marketers learn that language. What term do you find yourself explaining most often to new hires during onboarding? Let us know. Above the fold refers to the part of an email message or webpage that is visible without scrolling. It refers to a printing term for the top half of a newspaper which is, literally, above the place in the newspaper where it is folded in half. Unlike a newspaper, however, email and webpage fold locations aren’t predictable. The fold may be affected by the user’s preview pane, monitor size, monitor resolution, device type (i.e., mobile vs. desktop) and any headers placed by email programs such as Gmail or Yahoo! Material in the above-the-fold area is considered more valuable because the reader sees it first. According to the Wikipedia entry for […]

Marketing 101: What is the happy path?

The happy path is a quick, linear path to the purchase of a product or service where the customer doesn’t get sidetracked, either by their own distracted actions or by a company’s poorly designed process, or because the customer has a more complex use case. Let’s take a closer look at why this is important and how it might look. The Value Exchange Happy Path Often, companies require users to fit certain criteria to be eligible for the simplest outcome. An example of a happy path that MECLABS optimized with one of our Fortune 20 Research Partners would be the “Happy Path Upgrade Funnel.” The happy path would be what is experienced by a customer who chose to start the upgrade process having: Fully paid off their old device Was upgrade eligible based on the rules of their phone plan Had no account problems that they had to resolve in order […]
